Freedom and democracy are essential to lasting peace and prosperity. According to Freedom House, more than half of the world's population live in places that aren't entirely free -- and that number is rising.
Focus on Burma (Myanmar)
Burma recently embarked on a transition from military to civilian rule, but significant obstacles to democracy remain -- most notably, ongoing ethnic conflict and refugee crises.
The Liberty and Leadership program equips young scholars with the knowledge they need to lead during a democratic transition.
