Privacy Policy

This privacy policy governs the George W. Bush Foundation website, bushcenter.org (the "Site"), and all personal information collected from users of this Site, as well as use of the George W. Bush Museum handheld devices, the George W. Bush Museum “App”, and the 9/11 Interactive Museum Exhibit (collectively, “Center Devices”). The Site and Center Devices are owned solely by the George W. Bush Presidential Center. In this Privacy Policy references to "we", "us", "our", are references to the George W. Bush Presidential Center. We take the privacy of all our users seriously.

This Privacy Policy outlines how we treat your personal information and forms part of the Terms and Conditions for use of this Site and Center Devices. This Privacy Policy applies only to these offerings controlled by the Bush Center, and not to the collection and use of personal information by any third party via any website to which there are links on this Site. We are not responsible for the privacy policies of other websites, and encourage you to be aware when you leave our Site, and to read all applicable terms, conditions and privacy policies when using other websites.


By using the Site and Center Devices, you agree to be legally bound by this Privacy Policy, as it may be amended. If you do not agree to this Policy or cannot form a legally binding contract, you are not permitted to use the Site or Center Devices. What information do we collect?

You may access the Site's home page and browse the Site without disclosing any personal data. In order to provide you with the intended user experience, however, we may collect personal information from this Site, from registration forms, registries, requests for email updates, membership forms, contact forms, online surveys, your correspondence, and other information that you may send us. The Site and the Center Devices do not seek to collect any information from children. We ask that children under 18 do not submit information to the Site and App, and those under 13 do not submit information on the Museum handheld. In accordance with the Federal Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (COPPA), we do not knowingly collect information from children. We encourage parents to participate actively in their children's internet experience.

During your visit to the George W. Bush Presidential Center or the Site, or during your use of Center Devices, you may be invited to provide information about your experiences relating to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Such September 11 experience-related information is not subject to the terms of this Privacy Policy. Your September 11 experience-related information may be disclosed to the National Archives and Records Administration and further used or disclosed consistent with their policies and procedures; in addition, we may use your September 11 experience-related information in future displays or programs at our sole discretion.

When you check out or use a Center Device, we may collect certain information from you as necessary to manage an effective check out and use program for the Center Devices. By way of example, we may request your name, birth date, and information that may appear on a government-issued or otherwise trustworthy ID presented to effect a checkout. We will use information collected for these checkout and use purposes only for such purposes. How do we use your information?

The information we collect through our Site and Center Devices may be used to satisfy your requests for products and services, process your donations, respond to your inquiries, provide you with more targeted content, supply you with photographs and videos from a Museum tour, and send you information about the George W. Bush Presidential Center. We may use the information we collect to measure the number of visitors to the different sections of our Site or to our areas of Museum exhibits, and to improve the content and navigation of our Site and Center Devices so that they are more useful to visitors. In addition, we may also use the information to contact you regarding changes to our Privacy Policy or other policies that may affect you and your use of our web site, products and services.

We may combine the information we collect with information available from other sources, including information received from promotional partners or other third parties.

We may use the services of agents and contractors to assist us in providing our products and services. Such agents and contactors who have access to personally identifiable information are required to protect this information in a manner that is consistent with this Privacy Policy, and use information we provide to them only for the purpose of providing services to us.

We may, from time to time, share certain personally identifiable information with unrelated third parties (e.g., retailers, marketers) to enable them to provide you with opportunities to learn of products or services in which you may be interested.

We may disclose personally identifiable information in response to legal process (e.g., a court order or a subpoena). We also may disclose such information in response to a law enforcement agency's request or where we believe it is necessary to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to the physical safety of any person, violations of our terms of use, or as otherwise required or permitted by law. In addition, we may transfer information about you if we are acquired by or merged with another entity.

We may operate a mailing list to send you George W. Bush Presidential Center related news. This mailing list currently operates as an 'opt in' mailing list whereby subscribers add themselves to the list. We only send emails to addresses that have been subscribed to the list. If you wish to unsubscribe from the list please e-mail us at updates@bushcenter.org. In addition, at your request, we may send pictures you take during your use of Center Devices, as well as other information collected using Center Devices, to you via email. We may request your email address in order to email you such visit-related information.

As noted above, we may use the information we collect from you through our web site to offer you products, services, and for other purposes such as delivering targeted content that may be of interest to you. If you would prefer not to receive future promotional materials from us, you may indicate your preference by updating your profile or by contacting us at updates@bushcenter.org..

We may share your information with companies whose practices are not covered by this Privacy Policy that may want to market products and services of interest to you. If you would like to request that we not share your information, please contact us at updates@bushcenter.org.


We take every precaution to protect your personal information. In addition, we have strict security protocols in place to protect our customer database from unauthorized access, improper use or disclosure, unauthorized modification, and unlawful destruction or accidental loss. We only allow access to the customer database when absolutely necessary, and then under strict guidelines as to what use may be made of such details. We may ask you for proof of identity before disclosing any personal information to you. The security of your information, however, cannot be absolutely guaranteed, and we do not assume any liability for third party use of such information, whether obtained legally or illegally from or through this web site.


We always aim to improve the services we offer. As a result we may occasionally canvass our Site customers using surveys. In addition, visitors who use the Museum handheld device will have the opportunity to complete a survey following their tour experience. Participation in surveys is voluntary, and you are under no obligation to reply to any survey you might receive from us. Should you choose to do so, we will treat the information you provide with the same high standard of care as all other personal information.


When you first visit one of our Sites, upon entering your name and address, we may send you a cookie. Usage of cookies is in no way linked to any personally identifiable information while on our Site. A cookie is a small file that can be placed on your computer's hard drive for record keeping purposes, and we may use them to do a number of things. For example, cookies may be used to compile anonymous statistics related to the take up or use of services, or to patterns of browsing. When used in this manner, you are not individually identified, and information collected in this manner is only used in aggregate.
